Benefit for COTA in honor of Kelsey Sorensen
Daughter of Our Colleague and Friend, Roxanne Sorensen
To our dear colleagues,
As many of you are aware our colleague Roxanne Sorensen, Owner of Elder Care Solutions of WNY LLC, has been on medical leave to care for her daughter Kelsey who is a 14-year-old freshman at Amherst High School.
Kelsey Sorensen recently underwent an extensive medical procedure at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on December 2, 2019. The procedure, Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Auto-Transplantation (TPIAT) involves the removal of Kelsey’s pancreas, spleen, appendix, and gallbladder. Once the removal was complete, her own pancreatic islets were transplanted back into her. As a result of the surgery, Kelsey will now be a type 3c Diabetic and rely on an insulin pump for the remainder of her life and will require ongoing medical care in Cincinnati for the rest of her life.
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national 501(c)3 charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-related expenses. Volunteers are currently working to raise funds for COTA to assist Kelsey and her family in managing the financial burden of her surgery and lifetime of medical expenses.
A benefit for COTA will be held in Miss Sorensen’s honor on March 28, 2020 from 1pm – 6pm at the Main Transit Fire Department Banquet Facility. As Kelsey’s medical needs will require close monitoring, Kelsey’s family has partnered with the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for assistance with transplant-related expenses, such as ongoing medical care, monthly medications and diabetic supplies, and ongoing travel expenses to Cincinnati.
We are asking you as Roxanne’s colleagues/friends to assist us in making this benefit a success by providing donations in the form of gift certificates, gift cards, basket raffles, Chinese auction items, in-kind donation, or monetary donations. We are also encouraging as many friends within the community to attend and support COTA in honor of the Sorensen Family at the upcoming benefit.
Items can be mailed to Kathy Oliver, Public Relations Coordinator, at 30 Harwood Drive Snyder, NY 14226 or Mrs. Oliver will coordinate picking up donations. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Oliver at 716-818-3697 or email her at email@example.com.
Monetary contributions may be sent to COTA at 2501 West COTA Dr. Bloomington, Indiana 47403. Checks should be made payable to COTA, with “In honor of Kelsey’s Journey” written on the memo line. Secure credit card gifts are accepted online at www.COTAforKelseysJourney.com
Kelsey is passionate about soccer and is a superstar goalie for the Amherst Fusion soccer team. Kelsey’s plan is to be back in action for the summer season. Kelsey’s favorite sports teams are the US Women’s Soccer team, New England Patriots, and the Buffalo Sabres. Kelsey’s passion for sports is also carried into her love for baking where she uses the Food Network to guide her next creation.
Kelsey, Roxanne, and their family cannot thank you enough for your support and generosity as Kelsey recovers from this life saving procedure. Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Oliver with any questions or concerns you may have. We look forward to seeing you at the benefit.
